strain review

Pecos Valley Production, Roswell — Alien OG, naturally

The single most on-brand strain purchase in New Mexico. Alien OG, sold in Roswell, by a long-running NM operator. The cosmic-tourism alignment is almost too perfect to also be good. But it is. Mostly.

Some dispensary purchases just write themselves.

You’re in Roswell. You’re in Roswell for the reason people are in Roswell. You walk into Pecos Valley Production — one of NM’s older, larger operators, with the Roswell location sitting squarely inside the alien-tourist gravity well — and they have Alien OG on the menu. Reader, what are you going to do, not buy the Alien OG.

We bought the Alien OG.

What it actually is

Alien OG is a long-time California-genetics strain — an OG Kush cross — that’s been in NM dispensary menus since the medical days. It’s not new and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s been around long enough that the variation between cuts is real, and what you’re really reviewing in a place like Pecos Valley is this grower’s expression of it, not the platonic Alien OG.

PVP’s Alien OG cut runs piney. Heavy on the citrus-pine end of the OG family rather than the diesel-funk end. The trim was fine — not gallery-quality but not shaggy either. Cure was the right side of dry; we’ve had wetter from much smaller NM grows and much bonier from much larger ones.

The actual experience

Smokes clean. Burns clean. The flavor on the inhale was more interesting than the flavor on the exhale, which is a thing OG cuts do when they’ve sat a little too long in the jar. Effect-wise: heavy on the body, talkative for about twenty minutes, then a quiet hour where you discover that the museum gift shop is, in fact, the museum.

We’re not making any kind of medical claim here. We’re not telling you it’ll do anything for you. We’re saying: a thing was purchased, it was smoked, the experience was reasonable.

The Roswell tax

Here’s where the rating loses points. The Roswell PVP location runs hot on pricing for the obvious reasons — captive market, tourist foot traffic, every alien on Main Street pointing at the front door. You’ll pay a few dollars more on the eighth than you would for the same brand at the same operator’s other NM stores. Not outrageous. Noticeable.

We’re going to assume the rent on Main Street, Roswell, in 2026, is not nothing.

Bottom line

The flower is fine. The cut is fine. The store is fine. The whole thing is, in a way that only Roswell can pull off, deeply and unrepeatably correct. Buy it once. Take the photo. Send the photo to whoever drove with you. Move on with your life.
